You Tube – Busking Weekend Play Me Piano.
-
Lyme Regis Buskers hit all the right notes – Link to press release.
‘Beside the Seaside’ Busking Festival. Saturday 24th September and Sunday 25th, was a great success with 65 different pianists and over 50 buskers.
Organisers are calling all pianists, keyboard players, drummers, musicians and street artists to take part in what promises to be another wonderful weekend full of spontaneous, improvised and traditional music making….please see the different opportunities below.. This is your chance to enjoy playing in a unique environment and to support young music makers in our area – if you don’t play just come along to listen and please bring some pennies to chuck in the hat.
‘COME PLAY ME’ PIANO INSTALLATION
Installed in the new performance area at the shelters on Marine Parade overlooking Lyme Bay inspired by ‘Play me I’m Yours’, an artists project that involved placing pianos in unusual settings and inviting people to play them, we are going to do the same!
As well as letting passers-by play the piano, organisers are inviting more experienced pianists of all styles to come and play. We plan to book in as many sessions as we can -with a daily schedule (available on line during the event) so that friends, family and passers by can join you for a sing along. We are encouraging all players, young and old , who would love to play in this spectacular location, to book a spot. We are particularly keen to hear from over 60′s as we would like to make this a cross generational experience. 97 year old Jack Marshall will be opening this event on Saturday 24th at 11pm with some of those all time favourites, followed by star-studded performances throughout the weekend.
If you or anyone you know would like to play, whether it be for an hour, half an hour or just 10 minutes then please contact Pete Wild on petewild@bsharp.uk.com or text or call 07773 322213 or email Fran franwilliams@bsharp.uk.com. Pete Wild is a professional pianist and teacher who has booked in a couple of shorter sessions to play during the two days. Please come and join him and others in the spirit of good times through music. All funds raised from the piano will go towards more music making for young people and might even help towards bringing that very same piano to a town near you!

Busking Festival – Beside The Seaside
24th and 25th September 2011
This popular event is growing in size year on year, attracting hundreds of young buskers (and old) from all over the UK and abroad.
2011 will bring something different by way of a piano installation inspired by Play Me I’m Yours.
Musicians, choirs and street artists of all kinds are invited to book a pitch with franwilliams@bsharp.uk.com
Jacques Story…
This is sort of how B Sharp began. Jacques, a talented musician, was busking on the seafront in Lyme Regis making his bread and butter and was asked by various officials to move on and told that busking wasn’t encouraged in Lyme Regis!
When Jacques met Fran they decided to write to the council and ask for permission to run a series of busking events.
Lyme Regis town council not only agreed to this, but they produced a busking policy. As a group B Sharp had a good idea of having an annual busking festival to showcase the amazing musical talents that young people have in the area and as a fundraiser for the organisation. In partnership with the Lyme Regis Arts Fest and Sally Holman this has become a popular event that everybody looks forward to (it’s not only for young people).
There are great plans afoot for the Busking Beside the Seaside in 24th and 25th September 2011 which include having a piano installed – inspired by Play Me I’m Yours.
This is fabulous! Why didn’t we know about it before? Nothing we can do this year, except enjoy! But next year definitely!! This is absolutely what Count Me In should look and feel like.

It was a great experience playing outdoors on the piano because I have never been able to do this before. I felt quite nervous as I was following a professional concert pianist but in the end I really enjoyed it and managed to make no mistakes! I also liked watching others who played and the different varieties of music. Over the past year or two I have done a lot of B sharp workshops and every single one has been so brilliant so i hope you have raised a good amount of money for this incredible group.
