Summer Music Project – Groove with B Sharp
Comments
A co-production with Bridport Arts Centre.
B Sharp finished at the BAC after another 4-day summer session of music making with young people from 12 to 20 (up to 25 if your a trainee). They played, sang, wrote songs, grooved, performed and jammed. Everyone came with an open mind and a love for music. Workshops were lead by local professional musicians and B Sharp young trainee leaders (18 to 25) who have years of experience between them of performing and composing.
Music Leader – Pete Wild and special guest Sammy Hurden. Trainees – Jacques, Oli and Will plus Matt, Dom, Emma, Ffion and others TBC.
Summer Project Dates: August 30th and 31st (Tuesday & Wednesday), September 1st and 2nd (Thursday & Friday), from 2pm to 8pm daily. Cost £10 a day. £35 for 4 days. (Concessions made possible by the Rex Trevett Appeal Fund)

This was our third session at the Arts Centre, so we knew what to expect from the sessions, which is why I am gobsmacked we managed to get so much done! We always get a warm welcome from the Arts Centre and the people of Bridport which makes it easy to get on and make music, and the group that we had certainly did that! We all came into the sessions with no material and ideas, as the sessions are designed to draw on the ideas of the group while we are there. So having nothing to begin with, there was a total of 6 songs that the leaders and participants managed to write. The quality of them was better than i could have hoped for. Thats one and a half songs a day! What a productive group considering there were about 25 of us, as it can be hard to get all the ideas to every member of the group.
I really enjoyed myself and the feedback I have had from parents and children has been fantastic, without that feedback the sessions would have left me happy enough with the whole week, but having that just makes the icing on a very tasty cake! There is always a varied skill level of the musicians at these workshops and whilst it is easier working with those of a higher level, watching those that thought they didn’t have much to offer take centre stage and rock the place, is always the most rewarding thing. I hope some of our participants have gone home with a new musical fire in their bellies, and will go on to become the musicians I know they can be.
Once again, another B sharp performance drenched in quality, with nothing but positive feedback. I’m beginning to wonder whether B Sharp can do any wrong so with some more exciting opportunities coming up, watch this space!

This was a fantastic opportunity for young people to get together with talented musicians and compose music and perform. My son had a fantastic time, he has grown in confidence and has been inspired to go on and do more. The final performance was incredible, to see what everyone had acheived in such a short space of time was awe inspiring. Well done, looking forward to more!

Music is crying out for some new wild and outspoken mavericks and articulate eccentrics, but with some sort of originality.
