B Sharp is committed to providing everyone who works with us or attends our projects with the highest quality experiences. We invest in our great team of professional music leaders by providing continuous training and supervision. We nurture talent within our community, to ‘grow our own’ future music leaders, through our unique traineeship and apprenticeship programmes that provide opportunities for young people to work alongside more experienced professionals. Our leadership training and professional development helps ensure that all young people are welcomed and supported to progress musically and socially within our programmes and work with partners to offer that training across the region.
Formed in 2007, B Sharp is a registered charity based in Lyme Regis that offers music making opportunities for children and young people across East Devon and West Dorset.
We provide a safe and enjoyable environment where children and young people can explore and develop their music skills, increase their confidence and be valued for their contribution both as individuals and to wider society. We bring out the strengths in people irrespective of their musical ability by supporting and inspiring, building confidence, increasing self-esteem and promoting a sense of being part of something positive.
What do we do?
B Sharp operates weekly groups and other regular events hosted by carefully selected music leaders who offer the highest level and range of experience as composers, musicians, singer songwriters, and technicians. Our music leaders are enthusiastic and inspiring with many being ex B Sharp participants who share a love of music and the B Sharp ‘way of working’; and to maintain this approach we operate a skills cascade training model with clear pathways of progression for both our participants and our music leaders.
How do we do it?
B Sharp is led and managed through six Trustees, including a Chairman, a Chief Executive and several part time support staff. Critically, the direction of BSharp and the services we provide is strongly influenced by our participants, music leaders and institutional commissioners.
We work closely with regional and national partners, schools and other institutions, and a wide range of professionals and experts to offer our participants and music leaders a seamless route of progression from early years to adulthood.
In addition to our current participant group and community events we are preparing to grow beyond our immediate region by investing in resources, securing wider partnerships through face to face exchanges, shadowing arrangements and other collaborations including web enabled ‘virtual’ services and communities.
