What is B Sharp

B Sharp is a young people’s organisation based in Lyme Regis, East Devon and West Dorset that excites and inspires young people & children and provides high quality music making opportunities. Our aim is to bring out the strengths in every child, to build confidence and self esteem. We are recognised for a skills cascade training model with clear pathways to progression nurturing music & leadership skills. We offer Arts Award and our partnership work supports Artsmark and contributes to the National Music Plan. Our Leaders are CRB checked and we have up to date policies and quality assurance systems. We have a reputation for using best practice principles and have been funded by Youth Music and Arts Council England and commissioned to create work for: Cultural Olympiad, Creative Coast, Eden Project. Our professional music leaders are carefully selected from a variety of backgrounds. They have between them the highest level and range of experience as composers, musicians, singers songwriters, tec support and are all fully signed up to the B Sharp model of working. We have a regular ongoing offer of extra curricular projects for 11- 18 year olds, including Tuesday evening and holiday sessions.

B Sharp Vision

That all children and young people living in Lyme Regis and its surrounding areas have heard of B Sharp and know that there is somewhere safe and supportive that they can go to create and play music with other young people, to learn new skills and to make friends.

B Sharp Mission

  • To provide quality music activity for young people aged 11- 19 years (up to 25 as a trainee)
  • To encourage young people to participate in music
  • To initiate and deliver music activity
  • To introduce young people to a broad spectrum of creative and hands on experience
  • To provide training support so that every young person has a chance to discover and make the most of their potential.

B Sharp Ethos

B Sharp works with young people for young people.  It has a bottom up approach, which brings young people together. It welcomes and mixes all young people regardless of their ability, background or circumstances. It is full of ideas and excitement.  It nurtures interest and talent encourages. Young people’s views and involvement in delivery and planning through our management model and formal traineeships in music leadership is at the heart of B Sharp. It supports young people to gain in confidence, experience, knowledge and skills.  It supports young people to lead workshops and events and share their skills with other young people.  It seizes every possible opportunity to extend the music experiences for children and young people.  It is rooted in the community and environment of Lyme Regis and its surrounding villages.

Organisation Review

B Sharp has just undergone a recent review funded by The Arts Council to improve sustainability, to help shape and grow our grassroots organisation that prides itself on the quality and impact of its creative work with young people.
